Entry for April 17, 2007

I knew this would eventually happen, but I didn't expect so soon....  It's been a month since I've written anything up here.  Maybe I'll get better at doing this, we'll see.

Anyway, I have finally moved to Singapore.  After 6 months of talking about (or nearly 6 years depending on who you talk too), I'm living in a serviced apartment off of Orchard road.  Ai and the kids are going to come join me in the next few weeks.  I'm hoping and praying that Julian will get healthy so that he can make the trip soon.  He's had really bad eczema, and the flight would be too much for him right now.

As for Singapore, I'm really enjoying myself.  I've rented a temporary office in the Central Business District.  In about 2 months, I'll move to my permanent office in Boat Quay.  Hiring has been a bit slower than I'd hoped, but the work is definitely coming in.  In another 6 weeks or so, I think things are going to be very busy.  I'm looking forward to the challenges.

On the personal front, I've decided to explore taking some Chinese/Japanese lessons in my free time (while I'm apart from my family).  I've found a couple of tutors online, and I'll decide which language I want to stick with after a few trial lessons.  I know that my relationship with my family in Japan will benefit if I can improve my conversation level.  However, I've had a long-time desire to speak Mandarin.  I'm not sure if I got it when I met my best friend or if I had it even before then.

Regardless, as I've been spending time praying and reading recently, I've been filled with excitement for Asia.  I really feel like God's put me here right now for a reason.  Because I'm not sure who will read this, I'm a little reluctant to go into detail here, however, anyone who knows me should come ask me about it!

Speaking of my best friend, I had dinner with Kyle last night.  He's in Singapore for three days attending a conference.  He's also taking Chinese classes right now.  He's been spending a lot of time in China, and it sounds like he's enjoying his work.  However, it does sound like he's been working a bit too much.

That's it for now.... Maybe I'll put together a Singapore picture page sometime soon.  This is a wonderful place (if you can get over the humidity, right Kyle?).

Whoa! Lots to read after no postings. Glad things are going well. It's crummy that you are taking my grandkids away from me again, but I trust God's sovereignty in this matter and know He will make a way for my grandkids to know and love me somehow. Love you, Chase.
